About Us

The development of this exhibition - Jol-Jyanto Kolkata - is supported by the Living Waters Museum, currently hosted at the Centre for Water Research, IISER Pune and a member of the Global Network of Museums endorsed by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrology Program. Bengal, apart from its splendid natural heritage and water-based ecosystems, has always been famous for its arts and crafts. The design language of this virtual exhibition draws from the diverse and flourishing cultural heritage of Bengal. While the colour schemes represent the rich terracotta work that the temples of Bengal are famous for, other elements, such as the Hooghly River, have been inspired by Kantha embroidery. Overall, the web pages have been designed in the form of a saree which, when pleated, creates a magnificent flow just like water. Hence, the flowing tales of Kolkata’s many waters.
