Abstract
Through compelling interviews, including insights from environmental expert Abhijit Mukherjee, the documentary sheds light on the devastating consequences of groundwater pollution in the city, caused primarily by industrial waste discharge. As the largest mass poisoning in human history, the pollution affects over 50 million people, with alarming health risks arising from geogenic pollutants like arsenic and fluoride. The film delves into the dire consequences of contaminated water, including the spread of water-borne diseases, harmful effects on the food supply chain, and the presence of dangerous bacteria due to aging water pipes. While acknowledging some government initiatives, the documentary calls for urgent action to address this critical environmental challenge and protect the health and well-being of Kolkata’s residents.
